Poll: Why do Republicans Want Their Own Country to Fail?
December 30, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)—Soon after our first black President Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election in a landslide victory, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh was on the air rooting for his failure. “I hope he fails,” said the hate talker. Those hateful words kicked off an anti-Obama campaign, fueled by xenophobia, racism and blind hatred led by the usual group of right-wing Republican malcontents, re-branded as the tea party. The knee-jerk hatred and opposition to anything Obama even has a name, Obama Derangement Syndrome. Still, a new poll showing that a majority of Republicans are actively rooting for their own president to fail is shocking. These so-called patriotic Americans want their own country to fail. Why?
The CNN poll conducted by Opinion Research Corporation found that 61 percent of Republicans are rooting for President Obama’s failure. What specific policy do Republicans object to so fervently that they would want to see their own country and own president fail?
Who knows.
President Obama has passed historic health care legislation to ensure that millions of Americans have access to quality affordable health care. He has passed Wall Street reform, after the lack of regulation and greed of the financial industry nearly destroyed our entire economy, plunging us into a severe recession not seen since the Great Depression.
Republicans want these policies to fail.
A cleaner environment, investment in green technologies, policies ensuring that Americans are not discriminated against, policies to keep us safe from terrorism, while also fighting two wars with plans in place to send our troops home–Republicans want all of these policies to fail.
The poll asked the question: “In general, do you hope that Barack Obama’s policies will succeed or do you hope that his policies will fail?”
Among all those polled, 61 percent want to see Obama’s policies to succeed, with 89 percent of Democrats rooting for success and 59 percent of Independents.
But Republicans were another story. A whopping majority of 61 percent of Republicans are rooting for failure, with 51 percent of conservatives hoping for failure and 57 percent of teapartiers hoping Obama fails.
Hate talker Rush Limbaugh has been the de-facto head of the Republican Party for quite some time now. And this is the result.
